Dyne's Top 10 Anime Couples

Matter of opinion. No like? Too bad.

10: Makoto and Rune Venus (El Hazard)

I didn't see much of El Hazard when my brother watched the series, but since he was watching the dub and I was on the other side of the room playing through Final Fantasy VII again, I could hear most of the action on the show. It wasn't long before I could tell that Makoto and Rune Venus were getting close. It also didn't take long to learn that Makoto was willing to die for her, automatically putting them on this list.

9: Yusuke and Keiko (YuYu Hakusho)

I've only seen two episodes of YuYu Hakusho (trying to get more) but one of them had a moment that put this couple in this deserved spot. When Yusuke was trying to earn the right to return to life, someone set his house on fire. Keiko rushes in to carry his dead body out and in order to let her escape, Yusuke sacrifices what he believed to be his only chance for revivial. A great couple perfectly defined in only one episode.

8: Ataru and Lum (Urusei Yatsura)

This one takes more than one or two episodes to be defined, but after watching a few Urusei Yatsura episodes anyone can tell that Ataru is in love with Lum as much as the rest of the girls in the series, it'll just take time for him to become monogamous. There've been many times when Ataru's done something outrageous for her, even to the point of near-death. Lum on the other hand has never faltered and while her methods of discipline spurn from her short temper, she'll make a good wife, as long as her husband behaves himself.

7: Ken and Miyuki (You're Under Arrest)

A couple that's just waiting to happen if either one of them could get guts enough to admit that they like each other. Even though I have yet to see the two of them actually get together from what I've seen in You're Under Arrest, it's easy to tell that Ken and Miyuki are always looking out for each other and arriving to help the other out at the appropriate times. What I've seen is that they are conveying their love to each other, just not verbally.

6: Ferio and Fuu (Magic Knight Rayearth)

I haven't seen much of Magic Knight Rayearth, just like 12 episodes or so, but in those 12 there are three episodes dealing with Fuu and Ferio's relationship. While they are opposite in personality, I say that's the kind of relationship that can stay interesting. Plus the two have shown that they're willing to sacrifice great things for the other (although Ferio's motives may be questionable at times). I can tell that this is a romance that will bloom and stay strong for a long time.

5: Inuyasha and Kagome (Inuyasha)

I had to laugh when I saw the first episode and Kagome played with Inuyasha's ears while he was still pinned to the tree. I could tell right away that the two of them were going to grow closer together, even though he wanted to kill her at first. Since the series is still in the making right now, I feel that Inuyasha will change his mind about becoming a full demon and become a full human for Kagome's sake.

4: Gourry and Sylphiel (Slayers)

For those of you who think Gourry should get together with Lina, I say watch Ranma 1/2 and see Ranma's violent relationship with Akane. If Gourry got together with Lina, it'd be very similar to that. On the other hand, it's obvious to everyone (except Gourry) that Sylhpiel is in love with that knucklehead and while Lina is her "love rival," she's still willing to fight alongside her. Gourry on the other hand just needs to get a clue and figure out there's more to Sylphiel than just her good cooking.

3: Mamoru and Usagi (Sailor Moon)

On the first note, I'm referring to the relationship that Mamoru and Usagi have in the manga, it is much more romantic and close than the one they have in the anime. Mamoru is never giving her mixed signals and he's also much more open in admitting that he loves her. While Usagi's stance generally stays the same in both, at least you can easily tell that in the manga, they are a couple just by looking at them. Because their relationship has spanned nearly three different lifetimes, they earn my #3 spot.

2: Keiichi and Belldandy (Ah! My Goddess)

You almost couldn't ask for a better couple than Keiichi and Belldandy. I've been reading the Ah! My Goddess manga and their relationship is absolutely beautiful. Not only are both of them willing to sacrifice everything for the other, but they are the only ones who have ever passed through the Judgement Gate successfully (see the movie if you haven't). Perhaps my favorite example of their relationship is when Keiichi is induced with a love potion that makes all girls who look at him fall in love with him, however, because he and Belldandy are a perfect mach, their love breaks the spell.
And the Number One Anime Couple is...

Ranma and Ukyo (Ranma 1/2)

If you've read Choices already you probably saw this coming. Yes I have seen several Ranma 1/2 episodes and read some of the manga volumes in which the relationship between Ranma and Akane develop, I can see that they start to grow close over time. I'm not bashing Akane, but I still believe that Ukyo is the better match. I already decided to support the Ranma/Ukyo pairing when I first learned that she's one of his potential brides for these reasons: 1- They are childhood friends and the best marriages I've ever witnessed were between a man and a woman who knew each other since childhood. 2- Ranma is willing to fight for Ukyo just as much as he is Akane or Shampoo, showing that he doesn't judge between 'em. 3- Ukyo is one of the best cooks in the series, and it's always said that "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach." 4- Ukyo was the most willing to take care of Ranma after his strength was taken away by Happosai. 5- Ranma accepted full responsibility during the "secret sauce" incident and nearly killed himself when he drank it all. The list can go on and on, and while the official standpoint from Takahashi-sama may never change, thank goodness for fanfics that pair these two up.
